Head of Business Development
Prop Trading firm is seeking a Head of Business Development to drive growth by identifying and securing new trading talent, strategic partnerships, and opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a technology-driven trading background and the ability to engage technical stakeholders with credibility, understand the firm’s systems and edge, and adapt quickly as markets, tools, and competitive dynamics evolve.
Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate, and onboard high-caliber traders and trading teams
- Build and maintain relationships with technology providers, brokers, exchanges, and other strategic partners
- Represent the firm externally with a clear understanding of our technology stack, infrastructure, and capabilities
- Identify and pursue new growth opportunities, including potential expansions into new markets or products
- Collaborate closely with trading, technology, and risk teams to ensure business development efforts align with the firm’s technical strengths
- Stay current on industry and technology trends that could impact the firm’s competitive position
- Track pipeline activity and report progress to leadership
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in business development, trader recruitment, or related roles within proprietary trading, hedge funds, or financial technology environments
- Strong technology-driven background with the ability to discuss trading systems, data infrastructure, execution technology, and related technical concepts with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Proven ability to adapt to changing market conditions, technology shifts, and evolving business priorities
- Established network of traders, trading teams, and industry contacts
- Solid understanding of proprietary trading economics and commercial structures
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Self-starter who thrives in a lean, performance-oriented environment
Preferred
- Direct experience working with or as a proprietary trader or portfolio manager
- Background in quantitative, systematic, or low-latency trading environments
- Prior experience inside a proprietary trading firm
- Existing relationships in the Chicago trading and technology communities

Alissa holds a degree in Public Administration with a double major in Economics.

Marcos is a Senior Recruiter at Banyak Group specializing in the Investment Management industry, partnering with clients including Hedge Funds, Prop Trading Firms, Market Makers, and Asset Managers.
Prior to joining Banyak Group, Marcos spent over five years in executive search focused mostly on commodities across Latin America. His commodities background remains a core part of his work today, particularly as he supports clients active across energy, metals, and agri markets, including derivatives and paper trading.
Naturally curious and drawn to international environments, Marcos has always been interested in markets, different cultures, and learning how things work. He learned English from an early age and holds a BBA from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. He is based in São Paulo, Brazil.
Oban Cooper
Director of Prop Trading & Technology Recruitment
Oban is the Director of Prop Trading & Technology Recruitment, joining Banyak Group in 2022. He is responsible for leading retained search practices for Prop Trading Firms, Crypto Trading Firms, and Market Makers, while cross-functionally working with Hedge Funds, Asset Managers, and Family Offices. Additionally, he operates as a software developer building proprietary tools and infrastructure to optimize our recruitment efficiency.
Prior to joining Banyak Group, Oban was a licensed Private Investigator in the State of Florida with one of the world’s largest full-service investigation firms, CoventBridge Group. He has also held positions in sales, web design, and customer service, and spent most of his early career as an entrepreneur in Ecommerce.
Oban holds a Masters in Public Administration, a Masters in Criminal Justice, and a Bachelors in Criminal Justice, all from the University of Central Florida. He prides himself on being a versatile talent and a curious mind. Oban currently resides in Orlando, FL, with dreams of owning a farm.
